K&D have gone top of the league this week after travelling to Walsall CC and coming away with 20 points following a significant 10 wicket win.

The rich vein of form continues for the Station Road team. Skipper Sam Reddish won the toss and put the home side into bat, who currently sit mid table.

Henry Brookes (2-34) opened the bowling for K&D and struck early to dismiss James Middleton for 0. Walsall’s Mike Hingley and Dannyjo Cox then put on a partnership of 62 before Hingley was caught off the bowling of Oliver Haley (1-19) for 32. A quick wicket then came for Ben Brookes (1-36) who had Duvvarapu caught behind for just 3, leaving the home side 70-3.

Ateeq Javid and George Worker then came into the attack and the spin bowling of the pair proved to be too strong for the struggling home side. Both bowlers took 3 wickets each to dismiss the middle order and tail end of Walsall’s batting line-up, bowling the home side out for 168. Javid finished with figures of 3-27 from his 13 overs, while Worker ended with 3-18 from 4.5 overs.

The travelling side had 169 runs to chase and a rather in form duo opening the batting in Worker and Alex Phillips. The pair chased down the total without losing their wickets, with an outstanding display of batting. Worker scored his third hundred in four games, with 104* from 84 balls, and Phillips scored 61* from 92 balls, that being his 4th not out of the season to see his side home to a victory.

Sam Reddish, K&D captain commented, “It’s fantastic to know that we’re top of the table and have arguably the two most in-form batsmen in the league right now, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. We’ve got an extremely tough run of fixtures so complacency cannot come into it; we must keep going and keep picking up victories.

“George and Alex have been incredible this year and it’s a pleasure to watch them bat. I must say the bowlers have also been brilliant and deserve just as much credit for putting us into positions where we can chase down totals.

“We’re at home to Ombersley next week, which is a massive game for both sides, so hopefully we can continue this winning streak and maintain our position in the table.”
