Birmingham League champions, Knowle & Dorridge can announce the re-signing of league record breaker George Worker for the 2018 season.

New Zealand International, Worker, the league's run-scorer record, smashed an astonishing 1,645 runs in 2017, tormenting the bowling attacks of the world’s oldest cricket league.

The league’s record for highest individual runs across a season was previously held by West Bromwich Dartmouth’s Doug Slade, who hit 1,407 in 1978 – and astonishingly skipper Sam Reddish reveals that they could have secured Worker’s talents several years ago.

“We actually tried to sign him a few years back, maybe 2013 I think it was and we decided to go with someone else!

“Looking back now it might seem a bit silly but you don’t know until you have someone of course!

“George was an outstanding role model to our players and has since enhanced his profile by recently playing 3x ODI’s for the Black Caps in December.”

“He really enjoyed his time over here and I am thrilled he is returning to K&D once again.”

Last season represents the second Premier League title in the club’s history, the previous trophy being secured in 2009 by the Solihull-based outfit that formed in 1896.

But Reddish explains the importance of youth at K&D, which is blending with the vast experience of Worker and recently signed, five times Ashes star, Ian Bell.

“The ethos we’ve got at the moment is to push the club forward from a younger point of view and get people  from the club who come through the ranks and play first-team cricket at a young age.

“We’re really pushing youngsters and pushing club players, always looking five years ahead and making sure we’re well set for the future.”

K&D’s 2018 season preparations are beginning in earnest with adult winter nets running Tuesday's at Alderbrook School from 7.30pm - 9.00pm.
