Buy a Brick Appeal Progress
Letter from the President: 5th September 2011
Dear Member/Parent,
My thanks go out to those who have contributed to the Appeal so far – we have topped the £3500 mark and are heading towards the landmark of ONE all weather net already!
There have been a few queries raised about the mechanics of the Appeal, which I hope I can resolve here:
There is NO restriction on the amount of money to be donated, and neither is there any restriction on the number of bricks to be purchased by individuals, or families, or groups, or sponsors, or companies eg if an individual or group wants to donate £250, he or she or it can choose 10 bricks of £25, or 2 bricks of £100 plus 1 brick of £50 or indeed any combination they wish to choose up to the total donated. All you need to indicate is the name and/or message you want to place on the relevant bricks.
Alternatively, you may not wish to place any name or message on the wall at all – that is your choice – and you may just want to make a donation anonymously. Any such donations would also be most welcome and appreciated. All that would happen is that the sum involved would be added to the running total raised by the appeal.
I hope that clears up any queries about the mechanics of the appeal. However, if there are any other queries, please feel free to ask me, the Chairman, or any member of the Committee who will be only too willing to assist.
I am concerned that this appeal does not run out of steam after the first few weeks, and I urge those members who have indicated that they will be donating to please do so in the immediate future, or at least before the season ends, so that we can assess the success or otherwise of this appeal before making any decisions about the way we proceed with the building programme i.e. one all weather net at a time – or both together - to save costs!
To those who have still to make up their minds, what more can I say that has not already been said. I am sure that most of us – playing members or social members – would like to see a thriving cricket club with its various teams being successful in their respective leagues. Already this season we have seen the 3rd XI, under the captaincy of Kevin Bray, gain promotion to Division 2 of the Warwickshire League; and the Under 17’s have reached the final of their competition. The 3rd and 4th XI’s are full of junior members who have gained valuable experience in adult cricket and rely on continuing decent practice facilities to improve their skills. And so do the junior age group teams under the tutelage of David Smith and his team of coaches.
So, if you are thinking about it – or even if you are not – please consider the long term implications of these practice facilities for our future cricketers – and go on........... buy a brick.....or even more.
Tom Jameson
PS. If you have not got a donation form, they are available behind the bar at the club – or it can be downloaded directly from the club website.

Knowle & Dorridge C.C. was formed in 1896 and is one of the foremost clubs in the Midlands. Its history and connections with Warwickshire CCC can be seen elsewhere on this site (see ‘THE CLUB’ page) but at present, it runs 4 teams on Saturdays and 3 teams on Sundays and has one of the strongest Junior sections in the area.
|
|
The 1st and 2nd XI’s play in their respective premier divisions of the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League – one of the strongest Leagues in the country – whilst the 3rd and 4th XI team’s play in Division 2 of the Warwickshire Cricket League against other club 1st and 2nd teams.
On Sundays the 1st and 2nd XI’s play in the top Division of the Warwickshire Sunday League.

In 2005 the amalgamation of two clubs – Knowle & Dorridge CC and Arden Forest CC was completed to enable the club to utilise more fully the facilities at its second ground at Lugtrout Lane.
The thriving Junior section has a full programme during the season and there is activity for at least one of the age groups on every night of the week. At the moment we are proud to claim that one of our junior members represented England Under 15’s in 2004! For further details of a full programme of practice nights and matches, see the JUNIORS page.
